Plenty of new bands get gigs in other venues. And Monk, I think the point is that the current scene is fairly healthy, and that we don't particularly need new venues. Then M&B close their venues because they aren't profitable enough anyway, or at least not profitable enough for a PLC to sniff at, and hey presto, all the venues are gone.

The majority of people who put on gigs in oxford don't make any money and barely cover costs so why should we sit back and let a company that has a history of shafting both promoters and gig goers take punters away from the other venues and give them the opportunity to shaft us again.

There are fewer venues in the PMA today for blues than there were 5 years ago. It does seem there are fewer club venues, but that goes in cycles (just like anyplace). We have had a new club open up recently in Beale St NW, some other venues are adding music on weekends and the rash of venues going dark seems to have halted. We lost at least two major venues last year. On a serious note, if 5 bills is a minimum for you, it may be worth the effort to contact venues with a package before making a life altering move. This in turn limits the number of venues/gigs available for the musicians in this area with the ones that draw large numbers of people getting priority bookings.
